Indonesia Diving Destinations
Pulau Weh is a small active volcanic island to the northwest of Sumatra, 45 minutes by fast ferry from mainland, Banda Aceh. It was originally connected to the Sumatran mainland and became separated by sea after the volcano’s last eruption in the Pleistocene era. Diving here is still pristine with endless sea fans, and schooling fishes.
Bunaken island is just a short boat ride away from Tasik Ria Resort. Get to see the underwater world in it’s full glory of sponges, schools of jacks, turtles. This is really an easy trip to get to from Singapore with its’ direct flight. Divers are sure to be awed at the variety of critters you can find. At times you can even see a schooling pod of Pilot Whales or dolphins!
Well known for the weird and rare critters, Lembeh Strait is the place for divers who love macro photography. Dive into Lembeh resort is a purposely built place for divers with a well ventilated camera room, a wet area for your dive gear. You can easily relax in the pool after your dive during your surface interval. There’s even an onsen right outside your room!
Diving at Derawan are varied-from walls and fringing reef to caverns. Big green turtles (chelonia mydas), whitetip leopard and nurse sharks, schooling barracudas, napoleon wrasses, cuttlefish, Spanish mackerel, jacks and batfishes, and ornamental reef fishes hang out in record densities and diversity.
